TEDxCU Talk
If the portal video is there right now, its because they haven't uploaded my video to the official TED youtube channel yet!
FIRST! GO AND WATCH THE VIDEO AND THEN COME BACK HERE. I am mainly using this as a reflection and comment on how everything went. SO GO AND WATCH NOW!!!!
Welcome back! I guess the first place to start off with is that corndog did not do a single thing he was supposed to! He had around 20 different choreographed moves that were supposed to happen throughout the talk, and none of them happened! Basically someone in the front row had my Flipper Zero that was bluetooth connected to him to control him. They had my script with added lines that said [Hit the main button here to do this action] and then corndog was supposed to do it. Unfortunately what had happened was the timeout for the bluetooth program I built was set to 5 minutes, and I was backstage for like 7 minutes before I started my talk. The first two actions were to get onto my shoulder, but once the bluetooth reconnected, it restarted his motions from the beginning of the list, and I didn't realize that until around halfway through the talk, which was too late to do anything!!
Luckily I had a dress rehearsal the day before, and even more stuff went wrong, which prepared me mentally for the possiblity that he might not cooperate on the day of, so I improvved around his lack of motions (which apparently was good enough to the point where a bunch of people didn't even notice that he was supposed to be doing something else).
Otherwise, 4 months of work went into this! Between writing when I wasn't doing school or work stuff, going to test audiences and speaker sessions that TEDxCU graciously provided, I was both very supported and very bogged down with work for this. But I think it ended up working out for the better. Most of my friends and family seemed to like it, and hopefully you did too! Feel free to go and leave a comment for feedback on the actual youtube page! I promise I will read a lot of them.
Here is my docs file where I had planned and worked on everything, I think except the last version (you should just watch the video for that): Download the PDF
