Biography

I’m Stern (Leo Heuring), a student, roboticist, maker, open-source builder, and ninja from Houston, currently studying in Boulder, Colorado.

I build robotics projects using cheap stuff like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and 3D-printed parts, because I want it to be easy for people to learn the same stuff I did. I don't have access to multiple thousand dollar machines, nor do I have a academic background in this stuff. I just make for fun, and because I get bored.

OpenLoneHollow (both the channel and the website here) is my documentation of this stuff. I may not be good at making videos, nor making real teaching resources. But I want to try to inspire and encourage people to look at the world with curious eyes, and to not be afraid of learning new things.

Some of the projects I will make (like Corndog) I want to try to make into kits (with all the files free as well). These kits will not be the highest quality (I am just one person and I don't have a great budget to invest in these), but they should be good enough for anyone to get an idea or two of how everything works. I want this to be my way of giving back to the open source community, since it feels like if I were to paywall it, I would be a hypocrite.

I’m currently studying Creative Technology & Design (an engineering major) at CU Boulder with a focus on Robotics & AI, plus minors in Computer Science and Astrophysics. I also gave a TEDxCU talk (2026) and exhibited at Open Sauce (2025).

I'd burn it all down for you.
